This ESSA Tier II study examined literacy skill growth of middle school students who read and took quizzes on Newsela ELA twice weekly. Researchers found Newsela ELA users achieved about four additional months of literacy skill growth compared to their non-Newsela peers. Newsela ELA was 2x as effective as the the average 8th-grade reading program.
